Mother and grandmother abduct son from school

Two Hartford, Connecticut, women have been arrested for interfering with a legal custody order after the two abducted an eight-year-old boy. One of the women was the boy’s mother and the other was his grandmother. They abducted him from his elementary school without permission from his father who has sole custody of the boy. The child was supposedly taken from the school in the early morning and the 8-year-old was missing for more than one day. Although the crime did not happen in Connecticut where the two women were from, they may have been planning to take the 8-year-old back to the state had they had been able to avoid law enforcement officers for a longer period of time. Law enforcement officials worked hard to find the child and luckily did so quickly. The mother and grandmother, 24 and 50, respectively, were caught a day after the abduction. They were parked behind a house when police discovered their location. The car still had Connecticut license plates on it. The boy was not hurt, but the two women were arrested and charged with interfering with a custody order and criminal confinement. The boy was quickly returned to his father.

The father has full custody over the child, which he was awarded in a previous child custody battle. It is most likely that the crime arose out of the mother’s desire to have custody rights to her 8-year-old son. By allegedly taking the boy, the mother infringed on the court’s decision, and this may lead to jail time for the mother and the grandmother.
