In an effort to protect what each acquired before their marriage, the Los Angeles Times reported that Kim Kardashian and NBA star Kris Humphries opted for a prenuptial agreement. While it this may not be surprising to many, it may turn out to be a good decision should what would surely turn out to be a high-asset divorce come about.

According to reports, Kardashian, who has her name plastered on everything from a reality TV show to perfume bottles, is currently worth $35 million. Her new husband reportedly rakes in somewhere between $8 million and $16 million as a pro basketball player. Both of them have the opportunity to keep earning more should their careers continue to be successful.

Similarly, Kim’s sister Khloe signed a prenuptial agreement with her husband, Lamar Odom, before the two got married. Odom plays basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers and currently has a $33 million contract with the team.

While we practically expect celebrity couples to sign a prenup, they are not the only ones who can benefit from planning ahead. People in Connecticut and everywhere else may also want to consider drafting a prenup before the big day. While this may seem like a couple is planning for divorce, it can lead to important discussions about finances and help protect treasured assets that were acquired before a marriage, such as an inheritance or a business.

For those who are considering a prenuptial agreement, speaking to an experienced Connecticut family law attorney may be helpful.
