There are no doubt countless Yankees fans living in Connecticut, and they are no stranger to the team’s long-time general manager, Brian Cashman, who is arguably the most recognizable general manager in the game. Cashman’s life took a strange turn recently, when his wife filed for divorce amid allegations of numerous affairs.
Cashman’s wife reportedly filed the papers late last month in Stamford, Conn., where the couple lives. According to the divorce papers, the wife alleges that the marriage has “broken down irretrievably.” Cashman’s wife’s filing asks for permanent alimony, an equal split of assets and joint custody of their two children, a 13-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son.
The filing comes as Cashman is the subject of allegations that he had a second affair, after being caught on camera with another woman in 2009. This newer woman was recently arrested on charges of stalking Cashman.
According to law enforcement, the woman is accused of sending Cashman text messages numbering in the hundreds and trying to extort tens of thousands of dollars out of him for medical reasons. Cashman reportedly paid the woman $6,000. She is currently in jail in New York City.
The woman reportedly claimed to friends that she had an affair with Cashman for a year and that she was treated to perks like prime seats at Yankees games and that she was allowed to visit him at his office at Yankee Stadium.
Affair allegations are never pretty for public figures like Cashman. If he wants to get through the divorce and spare him and his family any further embarrassment, the couple may want to consider negotiating privately with experienced family law attorneys, who can dispassionately help the couple come to an agreement. It is unknown if the couple had a prenuptial agreement, but high-net-worth couples should consider one before getting married.
