Supermodel mother requesting massive child support award

Wealthy Connecticut couples often have to struggle with dividing large amounts of assets when divorcing. Different amounts for alimony and child support may have been awarded. But the massive amount of child support that supermodel Linda Evangelista is seeking from her child’s billionaire father has many people — experts and others — wondering if she’ll be able to pull it off.

According to documents, Evangelista is requesting $46,000 per month in child support. If the amount is approved, this means that their 5-year-old son will receive $1,500 each day. This equates to $807,000 each year, much more than the annual income of most people.

Some divorce attorneys commenting on the matter believe that Evangelista will not receive what she wants. Judges often consider the reasonable costs that it takes to raise a child when determining support, which means that the husband’s wealth will likely not be considered as a factor that determines the final amount.

The husband is the chief executive of PPR, a group that owns several high-end fashion companies. In addition, he is heir to a family estate that includes a sports team, a vineyard and Christie’s auction house. The estate is reportedly valued at $11.5 billion.

Evangelista has defended her child support request by stating that the toddler needs bodyguards and a personal driver to ensure his safety.

Evangelista and the boy’s father, who has been married to actress Salma Hayek since 2009, has been a child from that marriage. His 4-year-old daughter has a $13 million home in a trust, and Evangelista wants a similar home provided for her son.
