Connecticut residents have probably heard that Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn confirmed in recent news reports that she and her husband have begun divorce proceedings.

According to a news report, Thomas Vonn, who married then Lindsey Kildow four years ago, filed for divorce last week.

Lindsey Vonn, 27, though successful before her nuptials, became one of the top racers in U.S. history and attained her celebrity status during her marriage. Not only did she become a gold medal skier in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, but she achieved many lucrative endorsements during this time.

Thomas Vonn, who is nine years older than Lindsey Vonn, is a former U.S. Olympic skier himself. He has been known of late for being beside Lindsey Vonn in the spotlight, coordinating interviews, giving her tips on the slopes and also working on logistics. He will reportedly no longer continue as her chief adviser.

It was not reported in the news article whether the couple has a pre-nuptial agreement which would impact the results of their divorce.

Whether they have an agreement or not, there are many factors that come into play in high-asset divorces such as these. Among things that will need to be considered along with their state’s guidelines and an analysis of the facts are the earnings of both parties both before, after and during the marriage, their health, proceeds from selling any homes, capital gains from selling assets, the length of their marriage and who carries fault. These, and other aspects, will all carry different amounts of weight.

Lindsey Vonn, who has won three overall World Cup titles and 42 World Cup wins, has said that she will continue to be coached by the U.S. team and compete for the rest of the season.
